Feb 26, Day 2 -- Ft. Davis, TX

It was a chilly morning so we headed over to the Chuck Wagon in Ft. Davis where Jody and Henry Moon served up some delicious Eggs over greasy. I ordered extra gravy to stick it all together! There was a great 80 mile loop full of twisties leading out of town which took us over to the Macdonald Observatory. Lots of cool stuff to look at and a great road getting there. Next stop was Marfa, then headed south to Presidio. But along the way we stopped at Fort Leaton, which was founded by a scalp hunter from Mexico. This area was fought over by Pauncho Villa during the revolution and there was a significant battle won here in a daring night time raid, where the Federal troops were chased across the river into Texas by Pauncho and his men. From there, we rode down to Presidio where Rufus in true "Don't Gasp, Don't Yell" Fashion proceeded across the Mexican border packing Heat - A bolder man than I! Next was Hwy 170 commonly called the River Road cuz it follows the Rio Grande on the edge of the Davis Mountains. Really had to keep our eyeballs working overtime as it is the secondest most crooked stretch of road in Texas. Was sorry to finally pull into Lajitas the scenery was so beautiful. Speaking of some sorry assholes, there was a bunch of babes in the bar having a bacholor party being totally obnoxious. They offered one guy in the bar to come to their room and do a strip tease. When he refused they starting cussing him up and down until he just had to leave the bar. They have a goat that drinks beer in the town called Clay Henry, but we didn't see him around town.
