Well, the Magnificent Seven were down to six when Albert parted company yesterday, and today we were slashed to just four! Sadly, Priscilla had the trots all night and she was puking her guts up as well -- Bummer!!! She felt no better this morning, and regrettably decided to stay over a day in Mazatlan. Shortcut Mike said he would stay with Priscilla until she felt capable of riding. Ya just hafta be one hundred percent to ride the Devil's Backbone! Puerto El Espinazo Del Diablo (The Devil's Backbone) is probably the longest 150 mile ride on earth! It runs along the spine of the Sierra Madres, with sprawling views of rugged canyons and mountain peaks - That is, if you can take your eyes off the road for two seconds long enough to enjoy it! I didn't see a single 100 yard stretch of straight road the whole way. The mountain side curves were so tight on the narrow two lane road, trucks needed both lanes to negotiate the turns. With no shoulder to spare, it was plain to see why it is called the most dangerous highway in North America. I kept thinking about that old cliche; "...Sometimes you are the Windshield, Sometimes you are the Bug!" We climbed from the warm coastline to over 9200 feet in elevation -- Brrrrrr! We made it to Durango just as the sun was setting and found the Holiday Inn - Everybody speaks English in this Hotel -- Amazing!!! Ha!!! Total distance 249 miles.
