July 3rd - 12th Day of Alaska Trip

Leroy and I spent our second night in Skagway after hanging out with his son Billy, his wife, and his grandson's wife's parents. They got back on the cruise ship and headed for Juneau. We boarded the ferry with our motorbikes this morning sailing for Haines, AL, about an hour-long cruise. The morning was beautiful and we sat on the top deck for awhile admiring the view. Later, we strolled over to the galley and bought a hearty breakfast onboard at a very reasonable price. There were two other motorbikers that boarded the ferry with us and we naturally struck up a conversation with them. The man was from London and his wife? from somewhere back East. They had worked their way across the Great Lakes region and were eventually winding up in Anchorage, same as us. I noticed she was riding the new Versys motorcycle and foolishly commented about how the headlight looked a little funny. Oops! That was the wrong thing to say! She proceeded to tell me how ugly BMW bikes were, assuming wrongly that the yellow one parked below decks belonged to me when it actually was Leroy's! Well, I tried to take back what I said, but she said it was too late, so I just kinda avoided her the rest of the voyage for fear of being thrown overboard! Jeez, it really DOES look funny! Leroy's back has been giving him fits for the last four days, but he is just too tough to holler "Uncle"!. When he gets off his bike, everything is ok, but after 15-20 miles of riding he starts having muscle spasms between his shoulders and pain in his lower back. We were hoping that staying off the bikes yesterday would make some improvement, but as soon as he got on the bike this morning it started to bother him again. After we landed in Haines, we went to a medical clinic to consult with a physician. He prescribed some Valium and recommended massive doses of Ibuprofen. This afternoon, we got him an appointment with a massage therapists. She worked his shoulders and back for about an hour and then we bought some arnica cream for the soreness. Hopefully, he will feel better tomorrow, but we won't know for sure until we hop on the bikes and head out for Fairbanks. BTW, there are a couple of Snaps taken on the Ferry and once we got to our hotel in Haines.
